Exclusive: Watch a Clip from the Upcoming Film The Search for General Tso

The movie hits theaters January 2.

Here's a clip from a forthcoming film all about one of the most popular Chinese take-out dishes ever, General Tso's chicken. But who is General Tso? And why is a beloved chicken dish named after him? The film, titled The Search for General Tso, aims to answer these questions and more. According to a release, it follows director Ian Cheney (King Corn) as he travels from Shanghai to New York to the American Midwest and beyond "to uncover the origins of this iconic dish."

Cheney also seeks to understand just how the dish became a "ubiquitous presence on restaurant menus across the country" and how the sweet and slightly spicy deep-fried chicken is now "emblematic of an entire national cuisine."
