In its first four seasons, the beloved IFC show Portlandia has skewered everything from communal dining to bad mixology, using many real Portland, Oregon restaurants as backdrops. To help Portlandia ramp up for its fifth season (which premieres Thursday, January 8), here are stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein discussing the role food often plays on the show. "We're more interested in people's relationship to food and how that effects friendships or dynamics," Brownstein says, "the ritual of cooking, the ritual of eating, and the ritual of food service."
