Fast-food restaurants often show its soft-drink partners in commercials — McDonald's and Subway are Coca-Cola partners; Taco Bell is loyal to PepsiCo — but the Arby's chain recently pledged its allegiance to Pepsi in a unique way. Business Insider reports the chain recently released a commercial that's simply an image of a Pepsi glass, with the voice-over by Ving Rhames noting: "Arby's has an agreement to feature their good friend Pepsi in two commercials a year. Well, Arby's messed up and forgot about the second commercial. So here it is. Pepsi." The spot ends with a card proclaiming, "Arby's: We have Pepsi."
In a statement sent to the Wall Street Journal, a Pepsi representative acknowledged the ad's narrative, saying the joking commercial was an "unconventional" but fun way to settle the matter: "When they came to us with this idea, we thought it would be a fun, creative way to highlight our partnership." Arby's ties the spot into its current meat-filled ad campaign by noting on YouTube that "We love you Pepsi. You're like a meat to us."
