Jay-Z Purchases French Champagne Company Because He Can

Mr. Knowles has purchased Armand de Brignac for an undisclosed sum.

Rapper, mogul, and husband-to-Beyonce Jay-Z has purchased the Armand de Brignac Champagne brand for an undisclosed sum: CNN Money reports Armand's owner, the New York-based Sovereign Brands, confirmed the sale earlier this week. The brand, also known as "Ace of Spades" thanks to its iconic label, is currently overseen by a father-and-son winemaker team, Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier, whose family vineyards have been in operation since the late 1700s.

According to the New York Times, Jay has a long relationship with the brand, first featuring a bottle of its Champagne in his 2006 music video for "Show Me What You Got." (The Ace of Spades bottle is presented to Jay-Z at a poker table, arriving in a velvet-lined case.) Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce also reportedly served the brand to guests at a 2012 Obama fundraiser, stacking "a tower of 350 Champagne bottles" to the delight of attendees.

The luxury brand usually sells for around $300 a bottle, not counting its giant 30-liter "Midas" bottles, which were available at one Vegas nightclub for a whopping $275,000 last year. No word yet if Armand will now be available at Jay-Z's mom's New Jersey restaurant, Diamonds N Da Ruff, which opened earlier this summer.
