Just like rappers use lyrics to call out the people they hate, lifestyle mavens use recipes to take stabs at their enemies. A month after OG lifestyle queen bee Martha Stewart threw some very obvious punches at Vegenaise enthusiast Gwyneth Paltrow in the pages of Martha Stewart Living, Paltrow has fired back in her very influential GOOP e-mail newsletter. The kale juice priestess published a list of Thanksgiving desserts, including one for a "Jailbird Cake" which appears to be a not-so-thinly veiled reference to Stewart's stint behind bars.
Back in October, Stewart took feuding to a whole new level by naming a stunning six-page spread of decidedly un-macrobiotic pies "Conscious Coupling." The title pokes fun at the detox shake-chugging actress' divorce, which Paltrow kept referring to as "consciously uncoupling." Adding insult to injury, the spread was paired with the text: "Every Thanksgiving table should be blessed with the presence of a long-married pair who bring out the best in each other, are completely enamored despite their differences, and leave ever other guests thinking."
Even before the recent string of snarky recipes, Paltrow and Stewart weren't exactly BFFs. Earlier this year, Stewart told Porter magazine that the actress "just needs to be quiet," be adding, "She's a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart." Perhaps this Jailbird Cake stunt is proof that Stewart might actually be on to something. Poor Gwynnie.
