Southern Living has named its first ever barbecue editor. Charleston-based barbecue expert Robert Moss takes on the title of Contributing Barbecue Editor and will write for the magazine and its blog, The Daily South, every week. There he will chronicle his "travels around the South exploring the full scope and sweep of the barbecue tradition."
This means he will be taking a look at many "regional and sub-regional variations" on the cooking style. He will cover barbecue news and will also interview cooks, restaurateurs, and other notables in the barbecue world. Moss' coverage will include recipes and "a little history, too."
Moss is no stranger to the world of barbecue and writing. He has authored two books on the subject — Barbecue: The History of an American Institution and the upcoming The Barbecue Lover's Carolinas — and he has a Ph.D. in English. Looks like Dallas-based barbecue pundit and Texas Monthly's Barbecue Editor Daniel Vaughn has a little bit of competition.
