After a manhole exploded beneath a New York City taxi, trapping the driver and passenger inside, 23-year-old Starbucks barista Bernard Vickers swooped in to save the day, according to DNAinfo. The explosion shattered the cab's windshield and rendered its doors useless.

"They couldn't get the doors open. I pulled the driver out the driver-side window and helped the passenger get out of the sunroof," he said.

"They were both panicking."

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. outside the Starbucks on East 44th Street and Lexington Avenue. Both driver and passenger were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries, according to the report.
