Watch One Man's Quest to Cook the Entire Alinea Cookbook

It took Allen Hemberger five years to complete 107 recipes.

After dining at the iconic restaurant in 2008, blogger Allen Hemberger famously set upon a quest to recreate every dish in the Alinea cookbook. Hemberger's lofty goal inadvertently led to an upcoming book of his own: The Alinea Project, which should be available by next month, documented his experience cooking through Grant Achatz's complex cookbook. With the publication date looming, YouTube channel Foodie presents this short film documenting Hemberger's "odyssey through an iconic cookbook."

The film offers a preview of Hemberger's own book and an in-depth look into the thought process behind the project. "I've just kind of kept going," says Hemberger of his decision to complete Alinea. "I don't ever remember making the decision, 'I'm going to make everything.' It was more that I never made the decision to stop." The film also reveals how Achatz invited Hemberger into his Chicago kitchen and discover one of the essential published recipes was in fact incorrect. Go, watch the film above.
