Chef Mario Batali and restaurateur Joe Bastianich will open their third Tarry Lodge location today in New Haven, Conn. According to the Yale Daily News, the new location is "significantly smaller" than the other two locations which are located in Westport, Conn. and Port Chester, New York. The New Haven location will feature a menu of wood-fired pizzas, pastas, many grilled items, and an "extensive wine selection." It also boasts plenty of fancy kitchen equipment like an imported oven which can apparently cook a pizza in under two minutes.
Unlike the other Tarry Lodge locations, the restaurant will also feature more items "suited to a college student's budget," due to its proximity to Yale University. This means there will be student-friendly fare like meatball and turkey subs.
It's a busy year for Batali and Bastianich who announced in August that they are also opening a new restaurant in New York City. The pair inked a deal to "take over the entire food and beverage program" at the Maritime Hotel. They are also currently in the midst of opening a Babbo Pizzeria in Boston and expanding their Italian megamart Eataly to cities like Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
