Though it has struggled to grow within the U.S., doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme confirmed plans this week to expand throughout the city and surrounding areas of Mumbai, India. According to Franchise India, Krispy Kreme has already opened several locations in Mumbai, and later this year will open two more locations in the affluent neighborhoods of Bandra and Juhu west of the city.

Citymax Hotels India Pvt Ltd is the group behind the expansion plans. The deal, which was reached two years ago, was only finalized earlier this year. Citymax, which owns hotels throughout India, hopes to open the remaining doughnut shops by 2017.

Meanwhile, Dunkin' Donuts' India, which has been running a successful operation in the subcontinent for years, began offering specialty doughnuts to celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali this week. The new flavors are: a doughnut stuffed with saffron cream and topped with crushed almonds and pistachios; a rice pudding doughnut; and a doughnut coated with chickpea flour. Too bad they're not offered stateside.
