Yesterday world-saving British chef Jamie Oliver paid a visit to restaurateur/dreamer Alice Waters in Berkeley, CA. Oliver posted a photo from Edible Schoolyard, the educational garden that Waters founded. Oliver explains below a photo of him and Waters at her legendary restaurant Chez Panisse that Edible Schoolyard "totaly inspired" [sic] his Kitchen Garden Project, a similar project that brings cooking and food education into schools. Oliver tells Berkeleyside, "I have looked at Alice's programs and figured out how they can translate to Britain."
Oliver is still in California to participate in a live conversation with The California Endowment later today. Oliver will join Waters and "Renegade Lunch Lady" Ann Cooper for a Google+ Hangout in which the three chefs will discuss "food education, the importance of teaching kids about real food and next steps in providing the freshest and healthiest meals possible for our kids." While in California, Oliver also took the opportunity to hang out with "chef buddy" Tyler Florence.
