After announcing a "put pilot" commitment back in August, ABC is moving ahead and ordering a pilot based on NYC chef Eddie Huang's memoir Fresh Off The Boat. Deadline Hollywood reports that ABC has given a pilot order to Nahnatchka Khan (creator, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23) who will be writing and executive producing the pilot.
The potential show would be a single-camera comedy, set in 1990's Orlando, Florida. The pilot will introduce viewers to a Chinese family (though Huang's is Taiwanese) where the young son Eddie is into hip-hop (and maybe animal prints?), the mother is "bewildered by white culture," and the father is a steakhouse owner who "is obsessed with all things American." Huang is on board as a producer. No word yet as to an air date, so stay tuned.
