Watch How IHOP's Menu Tricks You Into Ordering More

The menus at the International House of Pancakes (aka IHOP) recently underwent a re-design (thanks to customer complaints about "too much text" on the old ones), and according to Bloomberg Businesweek, the new versions have resulted in a "3.6-percent increase in same store sales". In this video, Bloomberg breaks down how visual cues essentially trick diners into ordering more at IHOP, from adding more pictures of menu items (which breaks up the page while "introducing new menu items"), boxes ("to remind you you can order sides"), and color-coded categories to help with navigation.
