"Explosion of flavors" is probably one of the most overused food-writing terms ever, so here's a refreshing new take on it: a very literal explosion that sends spices and other ingredients into the air.
In what filmmakers are calling a "Sonic Flavourscape," pyrotechnics were rigged to bags of garlic cloves, cumin, basil leaves, sesame seeds and other ingredients, and each of these was triggered by a different musical note. Says director Chris Cairns in an accompanying "making-of" video: "We wrote a piece of music with the intention of communicating what it's like to taste something." The final result creates a truly "audio-visual feast."
