From a roster of deep-fried finalists that included chicken-fried meatloaf, whipped Nutella, and something called "Golden Fried Millionaire Pie," the Fried Thanksgiving Dinner won the "Most Creative" category of the Big Tex Choice Awards at the State Fair of Texas. As its name suggests, the dish features the various components of a Thanksgiving dinner: deep-fried stuffing, turkey, and creamed corn balls with a cranberry dipping sauce and gravy served on the side. The dish's creator, Justin Martinez, was a winner in 2011 for his Deep-Fried Bubble Gum.
The Deep-Fried Cubano Roll also won big this year, taking home the title of "Best Tasting". The dish is made from standard Cubano sandwich elements like slow-cooked pork, ham, cheese, and pickles that are rolled in pastry dough and then tossed in the deep fryer.
