Guides to the Texas State Fair; Foodways TX Symposium

New, 1 comment

DALLAS— The 2013 edition of the State Fair of Texas kicks off tomorrow, so Eater Dallas gets meta with its Guide to State Fair of Texas Guides. There are guides ranging from deep-fried things (something called "Avocado Crispy Fries" can be had at the Funway, btw) to non-food things to how-to best enjoy the fair without blowing your entire paycheck. COLLEGE STATION— Meanwhile, elsewhere in Texas, dates have been announced for the 2014 installment of Foodways Texas, the annual symposium focusing on local agriculture. Interested attendees should clear their calendars for March 20-22; registration is not yet open, but tickets will cost $300 (or $275 for members). [EaterWire]

THE INTERNET— The producers behind the 2009 documentary Food, Inc. have announced the launch of the first-annual Food, Inc. Awards, honoring "those who best embody the film's message by helping to promote healthier, locally grown, sustainable choices." Chez Panisse's Alice Waters is the inaugural recipient of the "Food, Inc. Movement Award," and organizers are currently accepting nominations for the "Pioneer Award" (going to a "local leader who created a community movement"), and the "Lifestyle Award" (for someone who simply "embodies" the Food, Inc. ethos). Nominations can be made through the official website until October 16. [EaterWire]
