The Association of Food Journalists announced the winners of its Awards Competition 2013 at its annual conference in Utah. The finalists were previously announced. According to the AFJ's website, "Currently first place winners in categories receive $300 (USD) and a certificate. Second- and third-place winners receive certificates. All receive the accolades of their journalism peers." It costs $35 - $45 to enter.
First place awards include Todd Kliman of the Washingtonian for Best Non-newspaper Food Feature and Laura Reiley of the Tampa Bay Times won for Best Restaurant Criticism. NPR's The Salt won for Best Food Blog and Andrea Adleman of the Washington Post won for Best Newspaper Food Feature (above 220,000 circulation) for her story "The Psychology of Cupcakes."
Best Newspaper Food Coverage Above 200,000 Circulation went to the San Francisco Chronicle; Best Newspaper Food Coverage Below 200,000 Circulation went to the San Antonio Express-News. Everybody else pretty much gets accolades, so hooray for everyone. Check out the full list below:
