A historic village two hours north of New York City is courting an "ace chef" by offering up a downtown Art Deco building free for one year. An "Action Team" from the city of Catskill — not to be confused with the Catskill Mountains — has assembled a YouTube proposal saying "we've got lots of foodies hungry for something great to eat... what we're missing is YOU, a talented, experienced chef/restaurateur with a taste for adventure." To court NYC-area chefs who can bring something "new and different," a building on historic Main Street is being offered for the right candidate.
Catskill Action Team member Nina Sklansky tells the AP that the free-rent deal will hopefully kick-start growth for the town, population 11,000. "I don't know what the actual spark will be, but I certainly think this will help ignite whatever's going to happen... If people are going to linger, they're going to want to eat."
