Watch Deep-Fried Clam Chowder Come Into Being

Japan isn't the only country deep-frying soup these days (America!). Cape Cod's Skipper Restaurant and Chowder House has discovered a way to deep-fry its award-winning clam chowder: add thickener to the base, use an ice-cream scoop to make a chowder "cake," then flour, egg, bread, and deep-fry the thing.

Says Skipper owner Alan Delancy: "We've all seen those crazy shows where people have been to state fairs and tried all sorts of crazy fried items — fried Coca-Cola, fried twinkies — so I started to think, 'What if we had something really great and we try to improve upon it?'" Go, watch:
