NEW YORK CITY— As part of its annual "Chef's Congress," StarChefs.com is launching a new event — the SMOKE@ICC Barbecue Competition — which pits professional chefs against competitive pitmasters in a four-round smoking competition. Attendees at the September 28 event will get to taste the brisket smoked by all 10 teams (including SF's 4505 Meats and Houston's Killen's Steakhouse) and partake in a beer garden and additional food-cart offerings. Tickets are $65 and available here. [EaterWire]

INDIANAPOLIS— More than 30 craft breweries will pop tabs at the first-ever CANvitational, a celebration of quality canned beer that will take over downtown Indianapolis on September 28. The $50 entrance includes beer samples from all participating breweries. More information here. [EaterWire]

LOS ANGELES— Heading to LA for the FYF Fest? Eater LA offers this guide of where to eat in the surrounding environs, noting that several worthy taco spots, Roy Choi's Chego!, and the slightly more upscale Allumette are all within walking distance. [Eater LA]
