Faux Scandal of the Day: Drew Brees' $3 Takeout Tip

New, 1 comment

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is the latest to be shamed for alleged bad tipping: Gossip site the Dirty recently called out the NFL star as a "cheap bastard" for leaving a $3 tip on a $74 check at the California restaurant Del Mar Rendezvous. But wait: Brees himself responded to the faux controversy on Twitter, saying that the tip was left for a take-out order, thus not necessitating a larger sum, and the manager of the restaurant in question has released a lengthy statement/apology praising Brees for his generosity:

If this is an authentic receipt, it would indicate that Mr. Brees is a very generous individual, as it would be a takeout receipt (indicated by the fact that there is no table number in the top left of the check, but rather a guest's name) and takeout orders do not usually garner a tip at our restaurant.

For what it's worth, Brees signed a $100 million, five-year contract with New Orleans last year.
