In honor of July 4th weekend, ABC's Nightline checked out a lot of classic media-favorited Texas barbecue places (although they missed some of the hottest places to get the stuff.). On last night's segment, reporter Rachel Smith begins her barbecue journey in Austin. She checks out the fatty brisket at Franklin Barbecue, before going to eat ribs and watch pitmasters basting meat with mops at the Salt Lick in Driftwood.
In Lockhart, she tries the ribs at Smitty's Market, but (confusingly?) leaves before eating at longtime competitor Kreuz Market. Later, she enlists the help of Texas Monthly's Barbecue Editor Daniel Vaughn, who takes her to "one of [his] favorite places in the state," Dallas' Pecan Lodge. Watch:
