The latest in non-Chef food movie news: Oscar award-winning actress Helen Mirren has officially signed on to star as chef Madame Mallory in the upcoming Lasse Hallström-directed Dreamworks adaptation of Richard C. Morais' best-selling novel, The Hundred-Foot Journey. She joins CW-approved actor (he was on the network's version of 90210) Manish Dayal, who will co-star as the film's protagonist, Hassan Haji.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Steven Spielberg/Oprah Winfrey-produced film will begin shooting in France and India come September. It is currently set to be released in US theaters on Aug. 8, 2014. Everything seems to be coming together rather quickly, given that Hallström had only just signed on as director in early June. According to Amazon, Mirren's character is a celebrated three Michelin-starred chef living in the French Alps who decides to "wage culinary war."
