Southern lifestyle magazine with delicious covers Garden & Gun has just announced it will create a brand new festival in Charleston, SC called Jubilee. The event will take place over the weekend of December 6-8, 2013. Garden & Gun has partnered with the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to produce the event.

Along with plenty of food, shopping, and workshops with local artisans, the festival boasts some pretty big names. Eater had a chance to speak with Southern Foodways Alliance head John T. Edge about the event, for which he serves on the advisory committee. He explained that Jubilee will be an opportunity "to see the magazine brought to life" giving both contributors (Edge is a columnist) and readers the chance to "interact with the people who populate the magazine." Edge also noted that while many food festivals these days focus on competition, Jubilee "is an exposition ? a chance to showcase what the South looks like right now."

Others also involved with Jubilee so far include chef Mike Lata (Fig, The Ordinary), chef Sarah O'Kelley (The Glass Onion), and Eater Young Gun Brooks Reitz (Jack Rudy Cocktail Co.).

Highlights of the festival will be a marketplace of artisanal Southern food products and a finale pig roast with pit master Rodney Scott and hosted by Edge. Of the roast, Edge said: "A barbecue pit master is as intellectually dedicated to his craft and engaged in his craft as a white tablecloth chef is. To mark the end of the event with a whole hog barbecue is a sign of maturing American food culture wherein barbecue isn't the ancillary piece." Below, the press release:
