NC Restaurant Kicks Out Diners Mid-Service, Closes

New, 4 comments

Here's one way to announce a restaurant closure: NBC Charlotte reports that on Sunday night, police arrived to Hops restaurant in Matthews, NC and that following their arrival, managers told guests that they had to leave immediately because the restaurant was closing permanently. Police were on hand for crowd control while guests were given bills and carry-out boxes for their food.

The restaurant reportedly closed because it failed to reach a lease agreement. Employees told reporters that while they knew closure was a possibility, they did not think that Sunday would be their last night working. Officials from Hops (which also has locations in Virginia and Colorado) told NBC Charlotte "they don't expect to re-open." A note on the door reads: "This Hops restaurant is no longer open. Our managers and staff have enjoyed serving you and we apologize for the inconvenience." Below, NBC Charlotte's video footage from Sunday:
