As predicted, the doughnut shop Psycho Donuts in Campbell and San Jose, CA has received harsh criticism and even death threats from animal rights activists for their plans to give away foie gras doughnuts today in celebration of National Donut Day. Chef Ron Levi told CBS San Francisco that he has been keeping the foie in "a secret location" for its protection.
In an effort to skirt California's foie gras ban, Psycho Donuts has followed in the footsteps of restaurant like Arc and Broadway by Amar Santana who attempted to offer foie to customers at no charge. Negative comments on the company's Facebook page have been flooding in, with people saying things like: "It is morally reprehensible and a desperate, pathetic attempt at free press for your stores."
