Today is National Donut Day, people, which means there are many free doughnuts to be had (while pointless, fake food holidays are undoubtedly an excellent excuse for restaurants to run promotions). Whether you're ready to try that doughnut breakfast sandwich (although it was only unleashed today so it probably won't be free) or just want the regular glazed version, here's a helpful guide to all the doughnut-y freebies around the country. Deals are valid today unless otherwise noted (but do check for local participation):

· Dunkin' Donuts: One free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage. [Official Site]

· Krispy Kreme: Free doughnut at participating U.S. and Canada locations (CT not included, sorry). [Official Site]

· Tim Horton's: Free doughnut with purchase when you show the coupon. [Facebook via ABC News]

· Shipley's Do-Nuts: Free glazed doughnut at participating locations from 5 a.m. to noon. [Official Site]

· Tastykake: First 5,000 people to like their Facebook page get a coupon for free doughnuts. [Facebook via Time]

· LaMar's Donuts: Free doughnuts at participating locations. [Facebook]

New York City

· Doughnut Plant: Free Classic Mini Cake Doughnut with all-natural Carnival Sprinkles with purchase, while supplies last. [Facebook]

Washington, DC

· Mama's Donut Bites: Free bag of doughnut bites for the first 250 customers. [Twitter via WaPo]

· Do-Rite Donuts: Free "old-fashioned" doughnut if you download the Hailo app. [Facebook via Eater Chicago]

· Mighty-O Donuts: Free Cini-Minis all day. [Facebook]
