Watch a Compulsive Yelper Parody

Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

Here's a parody of compulsive Yelping that pretty much sums up why Yelpers are such easy targets for everyone from Stephen Colbert to Andrew Zimmern. In the video, an obsessive Yelper finds herself reviewing everything from a homemade dinner to snacks at an office to envelope glue. She is also almost always alone, reconfirming The Onion's theory that Yelpers are socially isolated. The parody was made by Grovo, an online learning company that teaches people how to be good at the internet and "sharpen [their] Yelp skills." Go, watch:
