James Beard Award semifinalist Vivian Howard (of Kinston, North Carolina's Chef & the Farmer) gets the documentary treatment in the upcoming PBS show A Chef's Life. The 13-episode series follows Howard and her husband Ben Knight as they run a farm-to-table restaurant in "one of the poorest Congressional districts in the nation," and cameras are on-hand as the couple starts a family (surprise: twins!), adjusts from the New York City lifestyle to country living, and rebuilds Chef & the Farmer after a devastating January 2012 fire. The show combines classic reality elements, Southern-cooking segments, and visits to the local food producers in Howard's hometown (grits and pork cracklins, anyone?). A Chef's Life premieres in September, but here's a preview:

Because the series is part of a project by the Southern Documentary Fund, there's also an active Indiegogo campaign to launch funds for a possible season two.
