In case you missed them, here are the top stories from the week in Eater:
Recapping the week in Eater: The Eater Young Guns class of 2013 was revealed. Here are profiles of some of the up-and-comers: Ryan Lachaine (Underbelly, Houston); Mike Brown (Pig Ate My Pizza, Robbinsdale, MN); Shion Aikawa (Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Austin); Mark Schieber (Forequarter, Madison, WI); and Jessica Largey (Manresa, Los Gatos, CA).
The Paula Deen story continues: After her racist testimony was revealed, she bailed on a Today show appearance and then released (and pulled) three bizarre apology videos. The Food Network essentially fired her by not renewing her contract and the network stopped airing her shows. Deen released a statement thanking her fans. Deen's former publicist called the response "cringeworthy." Fans and apologists are flocking to Facebook, but apparently not her restaurant.
See a bunch of media responses: the Daily Show's John Oliver, Bill Maher, Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno, and Deon Cole. The Deen saga also inspired three hashtag memes on Twitter: #PaulaDeenApologyBingo, #PaulasBestDishes, and #PaulaDeenTVShows.
Finally, Eater was at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen last weekend, don't miss the hangover observations and the interview with power trio Grant Achatz, David Chang & Wylie Dufresne. Also interviewed: José Andrés, Daniel Boulud, Dana Cowin, Drew Nieporent, John Besh, Jamie Malone, Eric Ripert, Erik Anderson, and Andrew Zimmern. Finally, a bunch of chefs read their own Yelp reviews.
