Critic Tejal Rao Resigns From the Village Voice

Village Voice critic Tejal Rao — who just won the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award at this year's James Beard Awards — has resigned from the Village Voice. Her colleague, former Voice critic Robert Sietsema, was one of several employees laid off last week.

While Rao did not attribute her resignation to the massive layoffs/firings/whatever-you-want-to-call-its at the Voice, she did tweet, "Thanks to the writers and editors who made working here a dream come true." Sietsema chimed in, "I for one will miss reading her in the Voice on a regular basis." No word on Rao's next move, or Sietsema's, for that matter. As Eater NY notes, the alt-weekly is currently hiring food bloggers, so good luck to them, and good luck to restaurant reviewing as a profession.
