Today in proof that diners are not always stiffing servers and leaving mean notes on the check, a Steak 'n Shake server in Indianapolis says that one of her regulars left her a $446 tip on a check for $5.97. As local news channel WTHR points out, that would be a 7,000 percent tip. CeCe Bruce tells the local reporter that she'd been having a rough time with another table when "Miss Jo" left her this tip. Bruce initially tried to refuse, she says, adding, "I didn't think I was worth $400 but, you know, she feels I am."
Bruce is wisely going to use the extra cash to pay her bills. WTHR tried to track down Miss Jo, who unsurprisingly turns out to be a local good samaritan who doesn't want the media attention. Here's the report:
