Here Is Texas Monthly's 2013 Top 50 BBQ List, Unranked

Texas Monthly magazine will update its famous Top 50 Texas BBQ restaurants list in their June issue, and today they revealed the restaurants that made it on Twitter. This is a big deal: the list only gets updated every five years. These restaurants were announced in alphabetical order by city; the four top-ranked contenders will be announced tomorrow.

As barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn told Eater yesterday, "A huge amount of the list is going to be places that weren't even open for the last list." If this list isn't a huge vote of confidence for the recent Texas barbecue renaissance, nothing is. Also of note: no love for Lockhart favorite and former Top 50 barbecue restaurant Smitty's. Expect Texas-sized shitfits to be thrown about that one.
