Her husband Jeffrey "helped Ina get her job at the White House by asking [Henry] Kissinger, his boss, to pass around her résumé." So she landed a job at the Office of Management and Budget and then moved to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. And then she saw an ad in the Times "for a specialty food store in East Hampton called the Barefoot Contessa." [Slate]
