Peter Workman, founder of Workman Publishing, died this weekend at the age of 74. Workman Publishing was responsible for producing such seminal cookbooks as The Silver Palate Cookbook by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins, and Thomas Keller's The French Laundry. Workman includes the cookbook-heavy imprints Artisan (Keller's books, The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion & Cooking Manual, Naomi Duguid and Jeffrey Alford's books), and Storey Publishing (country crafts/modern homesteading titles).

Keller offered condolences on Twitter, writing "Profound loss. Peter Workman @WorkmanPub was an extraordinary man & tireless champion of publishing. We're all in a better place b/c of him." Southern Foodways Alliance president John T. Edge, whose work has also been published by Workman, added "Great man, great legacy." Stay tuned later today for a remembrance of Peter Workman.
