New Details on BulliPedia: Launch Date January 2016

Spanish chef/encyclopedian Ferran Adrià presented on the academic applications of the upcoming BulliPedia at the University of Barcelona on Monday, and it turns out the world may wait slightly longer than anticipated for the digital resource. According to El País (link in Spanish), chefs including Joan Roca, Carme Ruscalleda, Enric Rovira, Fina Puigdevall, and Christian Escribà will collaborate on the project during 2013; in 2014, the content will be developed; and in 2015 the content will be entered into the website. That means no BulliPedia for anyone until January of 2016. That's quite a bit later than Adrià estimated back in October, when he said the project would be completed by the end of 2014.

No matter, there are other details from Adrià's presentation to tide you over. He specified that while the "key" language would be Catalan, when BulliPedia is released it will be available in Castilian and English as well. EFE reports Adrià mentioned that the Peruvian government has expressed interest in doing a Peruvian BulliPedia, outlining the cuisine of that country.

Before that can happen, the original must be completed. The academic/instructional side of BulliPedia will cover:

"History of Western culinary art by means of recovering historical documents; science and cooking, in which scientific knowledge will be applied to cooking in order to develop new ideas and projects; the analysis of cooking techniques studied at universities and cooking schools to structure information; the study of cooking products; cooking terminology; creativity and cooking (application of the creative process which links art and cooking), and companies organisation and management."

University of Barceolona professor emeritus from the Department of Nutrition and Bromatology at the Faculty of Pharmacy Abel Mariné has been appointed academic coordinator of the UB-BulliPedia, the collaboration between the university and the BulliPedia project.

It has been previously announced that chefs like Grant Achatz and Heston Blumenthal will consult on the project as well.
