We're a few days into February, and it's time to look at the most notable food & drink events going on this month and a bit beyond that. The docket for February includes the first two stops of a ten-city pork-centric cooking competition (Cochon 555), a swanky and relaxing Hawaii retreat with some of Los Angeles' best chefs (Chef Fest - Made in America), Lee Schrager's annual Miami mega festival (South Beach Wine & Food), Rene Redzepi's new monthly series of food and creativity talks in Copenhagen (MAD Mondays), and, at the end of the month, South Carolina's biggest culinary event (BB&T Charleston Wine & Food). DC International Wine & Food Festival
When: February 5 - February 9, 2013
Where: Washington, DC
What: This is the 14th installment of the Washington, DC International Wine and Food Festival. Held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, the event has expanded this year to include more events, including several tastings, sommelier contests, and seminars. It's short on celebrity chefs but not on good booze, food, or information.
When: February 10 and February 17, 2013
Where: New York City and Atlanta
What: The porcine competition will have ten events in ten different cities to determine the ten chefs that will square off at the Grand Cochon — the finale — at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado. The full lineup of participating chefs has yet to be announced, but so far confirmed names include Alex Guarnaschelli in New York, Kelly Liken in Vail, Jonathan Sundstrom in Seattle, Mike Isabella in Washington, DC, Jeff McInnis in Miami, and Matthias Merges in Chicago. The 10-city tour kicks off in New York City on February 10 with a lineup that is entirely female.
South Beach Wine & Food
When: February 21 - February 24, 2013
Where: Miami, Florida

Montreal en Lumière
When: February 21 - March 3, 2013
Where: Montreal, Canada
What: This is arts and culture festival is one of the best in Canada and it always includes a strong gastronomic component. This year, the culinary portion highlights Buenos Aires and Philadelphia. On the Buenos Aires side, legendary chef and grilling expert Francis Mallman will be cooking a dinner with Jérôme Ferrer and serving as honorary president of the festival's food program.
New York City Beer Week
When: February 22 - March 3, 2013
Where: New York, NY
What: The New York City Brewers Guild, a nonprofit with the goal of supporting local breweries, is staging their Beer Week for the sixth time. It'll include hundreds of events throughout the city.

Where: Copenhagen, Denmark
What: Noma chef René Redzepi has announced a series of monthly roundtable discussions about food and creativity that are to take place on Mondays. These will be more intimate than the August symposium after which they are named. The principal Symposium will enter its third year in collaboration with the folks at Lucky Peach and Momofuku. If the two first installments are any indication, the event will feature some of the world's leading chefs, as well as academics, authors, and purveyors.
Chef Fest - Made in America
When: February 26 - March 3, 2013
Where: H?lualoa, Hawaii
What: If a week at the Four Seasons Hual?lai isn't enticing enough, perhaps a series of dinners and culinary events staged onsite from chefs like Nancy Silverton, Josiah Citrin, and Ludo Lefebvre will seal the deal. They'll be at the stunning resort as part of Chef Fest, a collaboration between the hotel and Made in America author Lucy Lean.
BB&T Charleston Wine & Food
When: February 28 - March 3, 2013
Where: Charleston, South Carolina
What: A very cool food weekend intensely focused on local flavors, traditions, and chefs. There's an even more extensive schedule this year, featuring everything from cocktail demos, fine wine tastings, bourbon luncheons, and a dinner collaboration between Sean Brock, Daniel Patterson, and Ben Shewry.
Melbourne Food and Wine
When: March 1 - 17, 2012
Where: Melbourne, Australia
What: For their 21st year, Melbourne Food and Wine have organized a monster of a festival: 17 days of tastings, master classes, and parties all across Victoria. Draws include the "Master Class," a congress of sorts in which Sean Brock, Magnus Nilsson, Ed Kenney, Enrique Olvera, Virgilio Martinez, Dan Lepard, and Ben Shewry will make presentations.
Pebble Beach Food & Wine
When: April 4 - April 7, 2013
Where: Pebble Beach, CA
What: This production from Food & Wine includes a dinner with Guy Fieri and an omakase lunch with chefs Masaharu Morimoto and Roy Yamaguchi. But if you want to really go Pebble Beach, see the the Founders Dinner, which "requires each diner to bring two 750 mL bottles or a single magnum (1.5mL) of wine valued over $5000 from an exceptional vintage."

Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
What: Bon Appétit Magazine's annual vegas fête returns with the reliably fun grand poolside tasting, a brunch and cooking demo hosted by French culinary giant Joel Robuchon, and a lunch presided over by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Where: Mexico City
What: Enrique Olvera's gastronomic festival and symposium enters its second year with a lineup that includes Mexican chefs like Jorge Vallejo, Elena Reygadas, and Diego Hernández Baquedano. Visiting presenters include Andoni Luis Aduriz, René Redzepi, David Kinch, Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, and Alinea designer Martin Kastner.
