Los Angeles-based burger chain Umami Burger has received $20 million in funding, a move that will enable the chain to expand to "to Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; and Miami." Umami is already in the process of opening locations in Miami and Vegas. According to NRN, 13 new locations are planned for this year alone, including one in New York.
Umami Burger is famous for its umami-laden burgers that are made using molecular-esque techniques. The restaurants serve cocktails and each one is designed differently, to suit the space and the community in which it's located.
