The Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, which holds three Michelin stars and is ranked second on the World's 50 Best List, has just released the first trailer for its "culinary opera" Somni. As previously reported, the piece is an interactive dining experience with "food and drink, video, robots, music, and card games." It consists of 12 acts, 12 courses, and 12 diners. The Roca brothers are collaborating on it with the artist Franc Aleu. The trailer doesn't explain if the event will actually be staged, but it does show the making-of process, with the Roca brothers developing the concept and waxing poetic and conceptual.
"What excites us here is being able to evolve and go one step further than what cooking represents," says sommelier Josep Roca. "Something that takes to this concept of technique, of cooking's involvement in vanguard arts, so that we also reach one's emotions." Head chef Joan Roca explains: "We are trying to create synergies between new technologies by projecting images onto the dishes, the surroundings, and the table, and accompanying it with musical pieces that will be composed to specifically link both the imagery as well as what we will serve for dinner." Specific details forthcoming. See the trailer below:
