Girona, Spain's three Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca has announced the restaurant is hitting the road: starting in August 2014, the entire staff is taking the restaurant on a world tour, Roca&Roll World Tour 2014. The restaurant's blog says the tour will "offer to people from different parts of the world the possibility to enjoy the experience we offer in Girona for the rest of the year." It's not entirely clear yet what the experience will entail or how much it will cost for diners. First stops include Mexico, Colombia, and Peru; no word as to whether or not they're coming to the US.
According to the announcement, the decision to go on tour came about after the restaurant received numerous requests to open Cellers in other parts of the world. They're not interested in additional locations, though: "We believe that from the way we understand and live the restaurant would not make any sense to open another Celler away from Girona." The World Tour might therefor be your only chance to experience the current number one restaurant in the world outside of Spain. Stay tuned for details.
