It really must be the most wonderful time of the year because along with their festive red cups, coffee giant Starbucks is releasing its second-ever batch of $450 metal gift cards on Gilt.com. This year's crop of 1,000 cards is made from shiny "rose base metal," comes pre-loaded with $400, and automatically enrolls the card carrier in Gold-level Starbucks membership status which brings with it coupons and occasional free drinks.

Last year's 5,000 steel gift cards sold out in a matter of seconds, so one can only assume that when these even more limited edition cards go live on Gilt.com tomorrow at noon ET it will be pure internet retail chaos. If you aren't one of the lucky few who manage to purchase a card, don't despair. There's always eBay, where last year the steel cards were going for $1,000 a pop. Check out the full press release from Starbucks below for more details:

Starbucks Offers New Limited Edition Metal Starbucks Card in Time of the Holidays

Starbucks is collaborating with Gilt.com this holiday season to offer its customers the exclusive new Limited Edition Metal Starbucks Card on Friday, December 6, 2013 at noon ET at www.gilt.com/starbucksrose.

The card, each hand-assembled, features a gorgeous artisan rose base metal with rose colored coating, laser-etched with traditional Starbucks lettering. Gilt and Starbucks are working together for the second year in a row to offer customers an all-metal gift card - this time, in a stunning rose gold hue in an even more limited offering.

The card retails for $450 and comes preloaded with $400 to use at Starbucks, plus automatic My Starbucks Rewards™ Gold-level status (a free birthday treat and 15%off coupon at StarbucksStore.com, free refills on iced or brewed coffee and tea, special offers and coupons, and a free drink or food item with every 12 stars).

Once activated, the cards are available for use at participating Starbucks locations in the U.S. Only 1,000 cards will be available.
