Week in Reviews: Villard Michel Richard

Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

Villard-Michel-Richard.jpgWashington Post critic Tom Sietsema files an unstarred review of Villard Michel Richard in NYC after a subpar dining experience that included a major reservation screw up in which a manager "avoids eye contact with me, and it is only when I am recognized as a critic" that it is corrected. Of DC chef Michel Richard's first NYC restaurant, Sietsema writes, "this is not especially beautiful or memorable cooking ... Fans of the four-star Citronelle are likely to be disappointed." [WaPo]
