Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

The mega tippers behind TipsForJesus are planning a nationwide tipping spree on Christmas Eve and they want you to participate. A post to the TipsForJesus Instagram account announces Project Christmas Eve, an effort to get the folks who are dining out on Christmas Eve to tip their server TipsForJesus-style. The premise of the project is simple: "Working Christmas Eve sucks" so "make it awesome for you server," presumably by leaving a big tip.

Thinking of joining Project Christmas Eve? For inspiration, check out the thousands of dollars in tips TipsForJesus has left to servers across the country recently including Phoenix, New York City, and Connecticut.
