19 Food & Drink Events for December and Beyond

December has arrived, and it's time to close out the year with holiday season celebrations taking place from Las Vegas (Winter in Venice) to New Orleans (Tales of the Toddy). In this month and beyond, chefs are all about the collaboration dinners, whether it be the return of Christopher Kostow's holiday-themed guest chef dinners (12 Days of Christmas), the debut of Sean Brock's event space at his Nashville restaurant (The Stables at Husk), or a pair of fundraiser events hosted by Boston chef Barbara Lynch. Both Garden & Gun and Cherry Bombe magazines are hosting events in the coming months celebrating their respective missions (both events named Jubilee, incidentally). And, of course, Le Bernardin chef Eric Ripert returns to Grand Cayman along with several of his chef buddies for his annual beachside bash (Cayman Cookout). Here's the full list of events:

Winter in Venice
When: November 18 — January 5, 2013
Where: Las Vegas, NV
What: The Venetian and Palazzo in Las Vegas are throwing their big Winter in Venice celebration this year with all kinds of food and drink events throughout the month. Eater Vegas has the rundown of events that include a celebration of Italian food in early December featuring the likes of Mario Batali and Wolfgang Puck, as well as a "culinary clash" pitting chefs against one another with Emeril Lagasse serving as MC.

Quince's 10th Anniversary
When: December 1 — December 10, 2013
Where: San Francisco, CA
What: Two-Michelin-starred San Francisco restaurant Quince is celebrating its 10th anniversary in serious style this month with a series of guest chef dinners featuring the likes of Sean Brock, April Bloomfield, Nancy Silverton, and Jonathan Waxman. The series already kicked off last night with a blowout white truffle dinner, with more to come each night through December 10.

Taste 4 The Philippines
When: December 4, 2013
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: Chef Dale Talde and his team are hosting a number of New York City restaurants for this benefit to support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Toro, Roberta's, Mile End, Dinosaur BBQ, Pok Pok Ny, Pig & Khao, and more are going to be there offering tastings for a $125 ticket that goes to benefit World Vision's efforts on the ground in the Philippines.

12 Days of Christmas
When: December 6 — December 21, 2013
Where: St. Helena, CA
What: Christopher Kostow's guest chef dinner series 12 Days of Christmas returns this year with yet another killer lineup that includes David Chang, Ashley Christensen, David Kinch, Andy Ricker, Carlo Mirarchi, Denmark's Rasmus Kofoed, and more. Beyond that, this year's event includes a free series of panel discussions with the visiting chefs at CIA Greystone. These are open to the public and space is limited, so be sure to RSVP.

Jubilee
When: December 6 — December 8, 2013
Where: Charleston, SC
What: Southern lifestyle magazine Garden & Gun is launching a new festival named Jubilee in Charleston this month, celebrating food, art, music, shopping, and more. There will be a pop-up diner, a "Southern Pantry" full of food and drink, a dinner and a show with The Ordinary's Mike Lata, and a pig roast with pit master Rodney Scott.

Valley Forge Beer Festival
When: December 7, 2013
Where: Oaks, PA
What: More than 50 breweries (including Troegs, Full Sail, Leffe, and more) are going to be on hand at this year's Valley Forge Beer Festival. Beyond tastings of more than 100 different beers, there will also be seminars devoted to topics such as homebrewing and how to start a brewery.

The Stables at Husk
When: December 9, 2013
Where: Nashville, TN
What: Chef Sean Brock debuts his event/restaurant space the Stables at Husk this month with a guest chef dinner featuring Joseph Lenn of Walland, Tennessee's the Blackberry Farm. They'll be doing a "fried chicken and beer family-style" dinner, tickets for which Eater Nashville reports are $200.

Tales of the Toddy
When: December 19, 2013
Where: New Orleans, LA
What: Tales of the Toddy, the holiday party sister event to the booze world's lost weekend Tales of the Cocktail, returns this year. In addition to the holiday cocktails and bites that are traditional of the event, this year teams of bartenders will compete to create the best nog, bubbles, cider, chocolate, and toddy.

Indio International Tamale Festival
When: December 7 — December 8, 2013
Where: Indio, CA
What: The city of Indio has been hosting its tamale festival since 1992, honoring the tamale's heritage as a celebratory holiday food. According to The Desert Sun, the tamale festival attracts more than 120,000 people in a weekend filled with beer gardens, performances from Mariachi bands and other musicians, more than 150 vendors and, of course, lots of tamales.

Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival
When: December 13 — December 17, 2013
Where: Palm Beach, FL
What: This year's Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival will bring Daniel Boulud, David Burke, Mike Isabella, Christina Tosi, and Todd English to Florida along with Food Network folk including Marc Summers and Robert Irvine.

Indie Chefs Week
When: January 7 — January 11, 2014
Where: Austin, TX
What: Austin is declaring this particular January week to be one celebrating its indie chefs. More than 30 guest chefs will join together for five nights of collaborative dinners at Foreign & Domestic. Visiting chefs include Tim Maslow (Strip T's, Boston), Jason French (Ned Ludd, Portland), Justin Severino (Cure, Pittsburgh), Matt McCallister (FT33, Dallas) and many more.

Cookbook Boot Camp
When: January 12 — January 14, 2013; January 19 — January 21, 2014
Where: Charleston, SC
What: Cookbook authors Matt and Ted Lee are hosting cookbook retreats in Charleston offering professional chefs tips on how to make a successful cookbook proposal over the course of six seminars. The two-day boot camp will be held over two separate weekends in January.

Cayman Cookout
When: January 16 — January 19, 2014
Where: Grand Cayman
What: Eric Ripert returns to Grand Cayman to host another iteration of his much anticipated Cayman Cookout. This year's lineup of chefs includes the recurring characters of José Andrés and Anthony Bourdain, as well as Daniel Boulud, Rick Bayless, Lidia Bastianich, Martin Picard, and more for a weekend of Caribbean culinary seminars, snorkeling, and gala dinners.

San Antonio Cocktail Conference
When: January 16 — January 19, 2014
Where: San Antonio, TX
What: Modeled on Tales of the Cocktail — and the first of its kind in Texas — the San Antonio Cocktail Conference is back this year with parties devoted exclusively to Bloody Marys and tequila, a "Texas Spirits Night" on a barge, a "Sherry Slam," seminars, tastings and more.

Sips and Suppers
When: January 25 — January 26, 2014
Where: Washington, DC
What: Once again, José Andrés, Alice Waters, and Joan Nathan are teaming up for Washington, DC's annual Sips and Suppers event. On January 25, Sips will bring together artisans and bartenders in a tasting event at the Newseum. Then, on January 26, well known chefs will invade homes throughout the DC region to cook dinners that will raise money for the city's needy. Participating chefs include Cathal Armstrong (Restaurant Eve, Alexandria, VA), Peter Chang (Peter Chang, Richmond), Spike Gjerde (Woodberry Kitchen, Baltimore), Paul Qui (Qui Austin), and Alon Shaya (Domenica, New Orleans).


Looking Ahead:

Mountain Gourmet Ski Experience
When: February 2 — February 5, 2014
Where: Courmayeur, Italy
What: British chef Heston Blumenthal will host this culinary event at Italy's famed Courmayeur ski resort in early February. He'll be bringing fellow chefs Sat Bains and Marcus Wareing over as well to prepare three-course apres-ski dinners for guests at these mountain restaurants.

Relais & Chateaux Grand Chef Gala and Toques & Tonic
When: February 6 — February 7, 2014
Where: Boston, MA
What: Chef Barbara Lynch is hosting two major fundraising events in February, starting with the Relais & Chateaux Grand Chef Gala on February 6 in which she will cook a five-course dinner with the likes of Daniel Boulud and Gary Danko. Then, on February 7, a Toques & Tonic event will feature tastings from chefs such as David Chang, Suzanne Goin, Paul Kahan, Jamie Bissonnette, and more, to benefit the Barbara Lynch Foundation.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival
When: February 20 — February 23, 2014
Where: Miami, FL
What: The annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival returns yet again this year with a lineup of TV chefs such as Anne Burrell, Giada De Laurentiis, Tyler Florence, Rachael Ray, Aarón Sánchez, Michael Symon, and more. In addition to tastings, seminars and dinners, there's going to be a José Andrés-hosted celebrity chef golf tournament, a Spotted Pig 10-year anniversary dinner, and, of course, the burger bash.

Jubilee
When: March 9, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: Biannual food magazine Cherry Bombe announced last month that their first-ever food conference will take place in New York City on March 9, 2014. Named Jubilee, the conference will follow in the magazine's mission to "celebrate women and food."
