Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

Looking for an opportunity to subject your child to shouty chef Gordon Ramsay? Well, good news because MasterChef Junior is now casting children ages 8 - 13 to participate in its second season. The Fox show — a "sleeper hit" hosted by Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot — will offer open call auditions across the country beginning in January. While the season premiere date hasn't been announced yet, the FAQ says selected kids will need to be available for eight weeks of filming from March 10, 2014 to May 2, 2014.

Wondering if your kid has what it takes? Watch last season's winner 13-year old Alexander Weiss blowing away the judges with his final meal in one of the best food videos of the year. If your kid can cook like that and is "demonstrably special," definitely bring them to an open call.
