Videos from this summer's MAD Symposium have been trickling online for some time now, and here finally, co-curator David Chang's introductory talk riffing on the 2013 "Guts" theme.
"For me, guts has been pretty important," Chang says, "because I've never thought of myself as the most talented person, but I've been stupid enough to make really stupid decisions, in retrospect." Chang goes on to call the 2004 opening of Momofuku Noodle Bar a "stubborn idea" that "never should have opened up," arguing that belief in your idea — to the point of stupidity — "makes things make sense." There's also a reference to Gattaca in there, for good measure. Go, watch:
