White truffle season is in full swing, so one Chicago doughnut shop decided it was time to shave the expensive ingredient all over some fried dough. Do-Rite Donuts & Coffee unleashed the white truffle doughnut yesterday morning and it doesn't come cheap. A single truffle doughnut costs an impressive $20. While that is certainly high for a pastry, Eater Chicago reports that each truffle doughnut comes topped with three grams of shaved white truffle, truffle syrup, fleur del sel, and Valrhona chocolate shavings. Do-Rite chef Harris D'Antignac tells DNAinfo Chicago, "Hopefully we've got ourselves the next cronut." (Cronuts are $5 each, incidentally.) Do-Rite will only sell the doughnuts during truffle season which will end sometime in mid-January, so get to it fancy doughnut seekers.
