Last week, James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Kahan threw open the doors at his latest Chicago restaurant Nico Osteria at the new Thompson Hotel. Eater Chicago takes a look inside, and finds a space with floor to ceiling windows and a large open kitchen with bar seating designed by Tara Bernard. Materials in the restaurant range from "reclaimed industrial pipes to plush velvet fabrics to a living wall." Chef Erling Wu-Bower's menu has an Italian inspiration, with house-made pastas and regional Italian seafood dishes. Pastry chef Amanda Rockman (formerly of L20) is serving desserts like Nico Torte with saboyan, pumpkin, and roast plums and a Chocolate Budino with hazelnut nougat and banana gelato. Also located on the ground floor of the Thompson Hotel is Salone Nico, which has a separate bar, couches, and lounge seating.
