Sciencey Things

cocktailboat150why.jpgJosé Andrés has teamed with MIT mathematician John Bush to develop two little cocktail toys: an alcohol-filled "boat" that propels itself on the surface of a cocktail, and a flower-like water pipette that picks up the perfect drop from an alcoholic beverage. The boat — actually a molded piece of gelatin, agar, and candy with a small hole to allow the slow release of liquid — was inspired by the movement of water insects. [PopSci]
