Danny Bowien's Mission Cantina Opening Soon in NYC

Photo: Krieger/Eater NY

Danny Bowien's hotly anticipated Mexican concept finally has a name and opening date. The New York Times reports that the obviously named Mission Cantina will debut on November 20, just down the street from his insanely popular NYC outpost of Mission Chinese Food.

Bowien tells the Times' Florence Fabricant that the concept will not be a strict taqueria, but instead will serve "our take on Mexican food" (which does include a taco or two). Bowien's early menu reveals housemade Oaxacan-style cheese, a rotisserie that will spit out rice-stuffed chicken, and steamed lamb ribs with mole. (As Eater NY points out, it looks Mission-style burritos are not part of the game plan.) Like Bowien's other Mission concepts, each dish will result in a donation to charity; the Cantina will also accept reservations. Mission Cantina's opening is less than a month away; stay tuned.
